COVID-19 Local Business Spotlight: Grand River Cellars

Grand River Cellars

At D&S Automotive, we value community and not just being a part of it, but strive to be an asset to the community as well. We are sharing inspirational stories from local business members in the MentorWilloughby Western Lake CountyEastern Lake County, and Chardon chambers of commerce to spotlight just how wonderful our community is!

Eastern Lake County Chamber member, Grand River Cellars is giving back to front-line healthcare workers despite the challenges the company faces in the wake of COVID-19.

Grand River Cellars

Grand River Cellars is located in the heart of the beautiful Grand River Valley Wine Region in Madison. Owner, Cindy Lindberg, knew that she wanted to pay it forward to local front-line healthcare workers but wasn’t quite sure how until she connected with Hope Prevails through a local couple that she’s known for years.

The couple, he, a musician who frequently plays at Grand River Cellars and her, a nurse, came up with the idea to host a 12-hour online Music Marathon called FOR THE NURSES. The online event took place on March 28th, featuring hourly dedications to a different nurse or groups of nurses. Wanting to donate a portion of the funds from the marathon to front line healthcare workers, they came across Hope Prevails, a local organization that coordinates donations of meals, packages, and more to area hospitals.  With this idea in mind, the couple reached out to Grand River Cellars to provide the food for their donation.

After hearing about Hope Prevails through the couple, Cindy jumped right in, delivering food to 65 staff members from the pediatric intensive care units and the hematology/oncology departments at the Cleveland Clinic herself. Grand River Cellars was able to accomplish this by donating the food that was initially planned to be used at the Ice Wine Festival, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With limited income at the winery, there is only so much we can afford to give.  However, I still think it’s important to support such hardworking people with a hot meal.” Cindy told us. She is anxiously awaiting for a phone call for her next delivery.

In addition to working with Hope Prevails, Grand River Cellars is raising money at the winery to help support its staff, all of which did not qualify for unemployment.  “They have been living with no income since this started.” Cindy explained.  The winery is open Thursday through Sunday 12:00 – 6:00 pm for carry-out food and wine.  Cindy told us, “20% of all food sales and 100% of tips are being distributed and given to my servers each week to help pay for groceries for their families.”

What Grand River Cellars is doing is just one of many reasons why we should try and support local businesses and restaurants. Especially at this time when they truly need it the most!

Stay tuned for more stories of local businesses giving back to the community or getting creative with new socially distant offerings throughout the week.
