While syringe exchange programs are growing nationwide, Ohio is pioneering harm prevention programs such as syringe exchange. Circle Health Services provided the only syringe exchange program in Ohio for nearly 20 years and has paved the way for others in Ohio to begin offering similar programs to the public. The program focuses on reducing the incidence of HIV and Hepatitis C infection in high risk populations by providing injection drug users with clean supplies and education to slow the spread of blood borne disease.
D&S is proud to have been included on this project. Working with the Circle Health Services Team to make sure that we were bringing their vision to life, the final product will offer a way for Cleveland injecting drug users to do so as safely as possible, in turn reducing the spread of disease. The program’s effectiveness has already been proven through a decrease in HIV rates among drug users in Cleveland.
